THE SHORT VERSION

The Eero 6+ is the lower-cost choice for internet plans below 1 gigabit per second. Consider Eero 7 if you can use its faster wired connections; a newer Wi-Fi label alone does not justify the extra cost.

Start with the price gap

Eero 6+ and Eero 7 are mesh Wi-Fi systems: multiple units work together to spread wireless coverage around a home. The decision is whether the newer system’s faster connections are useful for your internet plan and devices—not simply whether its model number is higher.

On October 24, 2026, eero’s US store listed three-router packs at $299.99 for eero 6+ and $399.99 for eero 7. Single routers were $139.99 and $169.99 respectively. These are observed store prices, not lowest-price claims; tax and promotions can change the total. Compare equivalent packs, and do not confuse the cheaper, Ethernet-free 6+ Extender with a router.

What the extra money buys

The 6+ is dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with two gigabit Ethernet ports. The 7 is dual-band Wi-Fi 7 with two 2.5-gigabit ports. Crucially, neither has a 6 GHz radio. Buying the 7 therefore does not give a compatible laptop access to that additional frequency band.

The faster ports are the clearest reason to choose the 7 for a new network with multi-gigabit service or compatible wired devices. They do not guarantee multi-gigabit Wi-Fi throughout a house. Manufacturer speed ceilings are not household measurements; walls, clients and the connection between mesh units still matter.

The better fit

Our recommendation is to keep a working 6+ system unless you can name its bottleneck. For a new household with a 300–500 Mbps plan, a materially discounted 6+ pack is the more economical starting point. For a faster wired network, the 7 removes the 6+’s gigabit-port limitation. Neither is an automatic choice for someone specifically seeking 6 GHz.

Both use eero’s phone app. Basic access controls are included, while features such as content filters require eero Plus; the US subscription page showed $99.99 annually on our check date. Add that only if you need those features. Eero currently lists security updates for both models through at least October 31, 2031. Recheck that policy before buying old stock, and judge success in your own rooms during the return window.
